Juri Upazila was officially created on 8 January 2005 with 8 unions of Kulaura Upazila and Barlekha Upazila, 4 unions from each of these two Upazilas. However, the inclusion of 2 of these unions, Dakshinvag and Sunagar, was disputed and has been stayed by order of court.
